This Privacy Policy describes how Moat Goat DRM ("we", "us", or "our") handles information in connection with the MoatGoat Viewer desktop application and the moatgoatdrm.com website and services.

1. Information We Collect

Account information. When you register on moatgoatdrm.com, we collect your email address, name, and password (stored as a salted hash).

Authentication credentials. The MoatGoat Viewer application collects the email address and password you enter to authenticate against a MoatGoat DRM server. These credentials are transmitted securely over HTTPS and are never stored locally in plain text.

Device identifier. A unique device token is generated and stored locally to enforce device-slot limits defined by the document publisher. This token is sent to the DRM server during license validation.

Usage data. The moatgoatdrm.com portal collects basic usage metrics (subscription status, document access events) to enforce license terms such as print limits and expiration dates.

2. How We Use the Information

To authenticate users and validate document licenses.
To enforce DRM permissions set by document publishers (expiration, print limits, device slots, offline windows).
To manage your subscription and billing on moatgoatdrm.com.
To respond to support requests.

3. Information Sharing

We do not sell, rent, or trade personal information to third parties. Information is shared only:

With payment processors (Stripe) solely to process subscription billing.
When required by law or valid legal process.
With the DRM server you configure in the Viewer — if you connect to a third-party MoatGoat server operated by a publisher, that publisher's privacy policy governs the data they collect.

4. Data Storage and Security

Credentials are transmitted over HTTPS. Passwords are never stored in plain text. Device tokens are stored locally on your machine and on our server solely for license enforcement. We do not collect document content.

5. Data Retention

Account data is retained while your account is active. You may request deletion of your account and associated data by contacting us at the address below.

6. Children's Privacy

MoatGoat Viewer is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

7. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy periodically. The updated date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. Continued use of the application or services after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
